Geografia dello stare
A participatory inquiry into the perception of well-being and unease among teenagers of Rome's Municipio III Montesacro. From their voices, a first-person map of the neighborhood.
The project
Geografia dello stare — literally “the geography of dwelling” — is a participatory inquiry into how teenagers living in Rome’s Municipio III Montesacro perceive well-being and unease across the neighborhood. It starts from one question — “how do girls and boys inhabit the territory they live in?” — and returns a map of the neighborhood written in their own words.
The client
Superabile — an organization working on inclusion and rights — in partnership with Municipio Roma III Montesacro. The project is hosted on Pianeta.Green infrastructure with a custom editorial theme.
Method
We collected quantitative data (who visits a place, how often, at what times) and qualitative testimonies (direct, first-person quotes, unfiltered). Results come back as a scrollable editorial platform alternating charts, maps, and the voices of the adolescents themselves.
What emerges
The voices don’t describe a place as safe or unsafe — they trace a subjective geography: some spaces are avoided for the group perceived to inhabit them, others for the time of day, others still — simply — because “people are what makes me feel unsafe”.
